about

A new interpretation of a short chant by HILDEGARD VON BINGEN
for shakuhachi and soprano. Arranged by Anne Norman and Deborah Kayser, members of the ensemble Jouissance. I have scored this work for any shakuhachi and soprano combinations who would like to perform it. It was performed by Bronwyn Kirkpatrick (shakuhachi) & Wendy Dixon (soprano) in 2014.

lyrics

Unde quocumque veninetes perrexerunt,
Velut cum gaudio celestis paradisi suscepte sunt,
Quia in religione morum
Honorifice apparuerunt.

Therefore, where-ever they arrived at in their wanderings,
There was a warm welcome, like we shall always receive in Paradise,
because in their devotion,
their great faith was clearly apparent to everybody.
