about

An impromptu jam session in a rehearsal room at Yolngu Radio station in 2015. I was visiting my friend Gaia in Nhulunbuy, who introduced me to members of the Bärra Band, and they invited me in to jam together just one hour before I was to fly back to Darwin.

I am playing a long (2.4) shakuhachi with the voices of Sebastian Guyundula Burarrwanga and Dion Marimanul Gurruwiwi.

Thanks for this fabulous chance to play with you. I am very excited to be performing with Sebastian and senior Songman Jason Gurruwiwi at this year's Tunnel Number Five in Darwin. Looking forward to it!

listener feedback:

“Thank you for this beautiful music. I have listed to this track multiple times in recent months and am always completely swept away by it. It is unlike anything else, and truly conjures the unspeakable magic of Yolngu country.”  Luna Ma Narama
