about

Performed by the Faraway Trio in Melbourne

Anne wrote TAKE FIVE as a homage to Dave Brubeck. It is a play on words. The Japanese title is 竹 (take - pronounced: tah-keh) ファイヴ (faivu = five). 竹 (take) means bamboo in Japanese, but looks like the English word in the title of Brubeck's famous piece.

Unlike Brubeck's iconic piece this is written specifically for the shakuhachi, so is ideomatic for this five-holed instrument.
