Moon in Water

from Vox Shak by Anne M Norman

/

about

I composed this piece after reading an evocative haiku by Ueda Chōshū 上田聴秋 (1852-1932). Chōshū joined the fight to end the Tokugawa rule, a time of turmoil when Japan was broken, and broken again, yet like the moon, still remained. After the Meiji Restoration, Chōshū took up poetry and published a magazine promoting haiku.

lyrics:

砕けても、砕けてもあり、水の月
broken and broken again, the moon in water
kudaketemo, kudaketemo ari, mizu no tsuki

From my Bandcamp Album "Self-isolation" released in 2020.
Recorded and mixed by Al Future at The Chapel, Hobart, Tasmania.
